Croatia has a Mediterranean climate, which means hot, sunny, and dry summers, and cold winters. If you're looking for the perfect beach holiday, May, June, and September are the absolute best months to visit Croatia.
It depends on where and when you go! Croatia is generally more affordable than other western coutnries , but places likeDubrovnik, Hvar, and Split can get pricey, especially during peak season (July and August). If you are on a budget, try the shoulder seasons (May, June, or September) when the weather is still amazing, but prices for accommodation and activities drop.
Also, swap highs treet restaurants for local bakeries (pekara) for a cheap breakfast, buy fresh fruit at local markets, and look into hostel dorms or Sobe (private rooms rented out by locals) instead of hotels.
You actually don't have to rent a car! The public transit system is great.
Between coastal cities: Buses are the way to go. Companies like FlixBus and Arriva are cheap, reliable, have free Wi-Fi, and connect all the major hotspots (like Zagreb to Zadar or Split to Dubrovnik).
Between islands: Ferries and catamarans (operated mostly by Jadrolinija and Krilo) are frequent and affordable. Catamarans are faster passenger-only boats, while ferries are larger and slower.
