Our travel experts can help you refine your ideas, pick the right destinations and plan your trip from start to finish.

When is the best time to visit Cuba?

Cuba’s tropical climate ensures sunshine throughout the year, but the timing of your trip can shape your experience. The dry season, from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit, with comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine. This is also the peak travel season, meaning more visitors and higher prices.

From May to October, the weather becomes warmer and more humid, but fewer tourists make it an appealing option for budget-conscious travelers. Prices tend to drop, and destinations feel less crowded—offering a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere. Traveling outside the high season can be a surprisingly rewarding choice.

Havana – A retro capital frozen in time

Founded in the 16th century, Havana is a city like no other. Despite the wear of tropical weather and time, its colorful buildings and historic charm make it one of the most captivating cities in the world - almost like an open-air museum. Classic cars, especially vintage Cadillacs, roll along the streets, making every corner feel cinematic.

Start your journey with a visit to the Havana Club rum museum or the Museum of the Revolution, then enjoy a leisurely walk along the Malecón seaside boulevard, perhaps with a scoop of locally loved ice cream in hand. With over two million residents, Havana also boasts a vibrant nightlife. As the sun sets, the city comes alive with music, leading you to lively salsa clubs where the energy is infectious.

To truly embrace Cuban culture, you can even take private dance lessons and learn the basics of salsa. Cuba’s rich musical heritage is world-famous, and participating in it—even as a beginner—brings you closer to the authentic rhythm of everyday life.

Yes, most travelers need a visa to enter Cuba, but it’s typically very easy to obtain. Instead of a traditional visa, you’ll usually apply for a Cuban Tourist Card (also called a tourist visa), which allows stays of up to 30 days and can often be extended once while in the country.

Requirements can vary depending on your nationality and departure country, so it’s always a good idea to check the latest entry requirements before traveling. Additionally, you may need proof of travel insurance and a return ticket when entering Cuba.

Cuba offers a diverse range of destinations, each with its own unique charm. Havana is a must-visit for its colorful streets, historic architecture, and lively culture. If you’re looking for relaxation, Varadero is famous for its stunning white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.

For a more authentic and scenic experience, head to the Viñales Valley, known for its lush landscapes, tobacco farms, and dramatic limestone hills. Trinidad is another highlight, with its well-preserved colonial architecture and cobblestone streets that feel like stepping back in time.

Cuba is generally an affordable destination, though some elements - particularly hotels and tourist attractions - can be pricier than expected. With thoughtful planning, however, it’s entirely possible to travel comfortably on a budget.

Accommodation options range from affordable casas particulares (private homestays) to high-end luxury hotels. Food is often very reasonably priced, especially at local paladares - privately run restaurants that offer authentic Cuban cuisine.
