Why road trips in Namibia are so special
Namibia is one of the best countries in the world for a self-drive adventure. The roads are long, empty and surrounded by constantly changing scenery, making the journey itself just as impressive as the destinations. With a rental car or campervan, you can explore at your own pace and experience iconic highlights like the dunes of Sossusvlei, the Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park in complete freedom.

Frequently asked questions
Absolutely. Namibia is one of the best self-drive destinations in the world. The country has well-maintained roads, incredible scenery and relatively little traffic, making it perfect for exploring by rental car or campervan.
We recommend spending 10 to 14 days to experience the country's highlights without rushing. If you have more time, you can explore more remote regions or combine Namibia with neighbouring countries like Botswana or South Africa.
Most travellers include Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Etosha National Park, Spitzkoppe and the Skeleton Coast. Depending on your itinerary, you can also visit Fish River Canyon, Damaraland or the Caprivi Strip.
Definitely. Camping is one of the best ways to experience Namibia. Many travellers choose a rooftop tent, allowing them to stay in well-equipped campsites surrounded by incredible nature and some of the clearest night skies in the world.
Namibia can be visited year-round, but the dry season (May to October) is particularly popular for wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park and comfortable driving conditions. The warmer summer months offer dramatic landscapes and the chance to see the desert come alive after rainfall.
Namibia is a destination where planning ahead really pays off. The country is huge, distances between destinations are much longer than they appear on a map, and accommodation or campsites in popular areas can book up well in advance. While it's possible to leave some flexibility in your itinerary, we recommend planning your route, overnight stops and driving distances before you go. That way, you can enjoy the freedom of the open road without spending your trip worrying about where to sleep or whether you'll reach your next destination before dark.
