VOLUNTEER AND SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA

Wild safaris and meaningful experiences in South Africa
Are you ready for one BIG and epic trip to South Africa? Give back to local communities and learn about their way of life by participating in a cool volunteer project focused on helping disadvantaged kids. Other highlights on this trip include spotting "The Big Five" when you go on an amazing safari through Krüger National Park.
Start your South African adventure in Johannesburg, from where you'll head to one of Africa's biggest and most diverse national parks, Krüger National Park. If you're lucky, you might spot The Big Five: buffalo, leopard, lion, elephant and rhino. The safari lasts five days, after which you'll catch a flight down to the south-western part of the country.
You'll end your trip in Cape Town, where you'll volunteer with a local community project, helping create new experiences for children from disadvantaged communities. Make sure to leave some time to explore the city's famous landmarks, such as Table Mountain and Robben Island.
Remember that this itinerary is simply here to inspire. Your adventure will be tailor-made to fit your schedule, budget, interests and travel style.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. This itinerary is just a suggestion, and your trip will be tailor-made to fit your budget, schedule and preferences. The trip consists of two main parts: safari and volunteering, and both can be adjusted to suit your plans. Maybe you're short on time and want to go on a shorter safari, or perhaps you'd like to spend longer at the volunteering project. You can also add extra stops and activities along the way. Maybe you want to end your adventure with a road trip through South Africa, or perhaps continue to other countries as part of the same journey. It's completely up to you.
No, you don't need any previous experience. We just ask that you're enthusiastic, flexible and open-minded. You should be comfortable singing, playing games and having fun with the children, as well as supporting and guiding them as they learn, develop and pick up new skills.
Once you've completed the project, you can add your volunteering experience and experience working with children to your resume.
Yes. During the safari, you’ll travel alongside other curious adventurers, and spending five days together in the wild is a great way to get to know each other. At the volunteer project, you’ll also live and work alongside other volunteers, giving you plenty of opportunities to make new friends.
When you’re not working at the volunteer project, the afternoons and weekends are yours to enjoy. Explore Cape Town, head to the beach or team up with fellow volunteers for a day trip.
The price of this trip is based on two people travelling together, but that doesn’t mean you have to bring a travel buddy. Get in touch with one of our travel experts, and they’ll help tailor the trip to you and give you the exact price for your adventure.
In Johannesburg, you'll stay in a hostel before and after your safari. During the safari, you'll spend one night at a lodge and three nights in comfortable tents with beds. While volunteering in Cape Town, you'll stay in a house with other volunteers.
The project is run by a local non-profit organisation (NGO), so being adaptable, proactive and willing to help out wherever needed is key. Things work differently from what you’re used to at home, and everyday life is generally more challenging but your work makes a difference and that's part of why volunteering is so rewarding. The experience will most likely leave a lasting impression on you, mostly in a positive way, though you may also encounter situations that are challenging or difficult.
Volunteering abroad comes with costs, even though you’re giving your time to support a project. The local organisations often don’t have the resources to cover the practical and administrative costs involved in hosting volunteers. Your fee helps cover things like:
Accommodation
Food – most meals are included
Project coordination
Transport to and from the project
Donations and support for the project
Administration with local authorities
Your fee also covers 24/7 support, so there’s always someone you can turn to if something doesn’t go as planned. Volunteering abroad takes coordination and organisation, from arranging your stay to working with local partners and authorities. These are some of the costs covered by the fee you pay.
Yes, we work with a range of volunteering projects in South Africa, so we can help you find a project that matches your interests, for example, if you dream of working with animals.
