Turn your Working Holiday into more travel, more experiences and more time on the road. From Australia and New Zealand to Canada, we’ve got you covered.

What is Working Holiday?

Want to spend more time abroad without having to save up for the whole trip first? A Working Holiday visa lets you combine work and travel, giving you the chance to live in another country, earn money along the way and experience what everyday life is really like abroad.

If you’re between 18 and 30 – and in some cases up to 35 – you can apply for a Working Holiday visa in destinations like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Work a few months, travel for a few more, or mix it all up. It’s your adventure, your way.

And it’s about more than just making your travel budget last longer. A Working Holiday is a chance to meet people from all over the world, get under the skin of a new culture, build your CV, improve your English and come home with stories you couldn’t have got from a two-week holiday.

So, where does KILROY come in?

We’ve done Working Holiday ourselves, so we know that getting started in a new country can feel like a lot. That’s where we come in. We can help you sort the practical stuff, from flights and visas to arrival packages and accommodation. Depending on your destination, we can also help you find a job and get settled when you arrive.

Need help planning your Working Holiday trip?

Our travel experts can help you refine your ideas, pick the right destinations and plan your trip from start to finish.

Where can you go on Working Holiday?

A Working Holiday gives you the chance to live and work somewhere completely new and the jobs you can pick up along the way can be just as varied as the destinations themselves. Fancy swapping the office for a beach, a ski resort or life in a buzzing city? Whether you’re dreaming of Australia, New Zealand or Canada, there’s a Working Holiday adventure waiting for you. Read on to see what each destination has in store.

Australia
Sun, beaches, wildlife and that unmistakable Aussie vibe. Australia has plenty to keep you busy. Settle into city life in Sydney or Melbourne, chase the laid-back lifestyle in Byron Bay, or head somewhere completely different. Australia is huge, so once you’ve earned some cash, hit the road and see where it takes you.

New Zealand
Think epic landscapes, outdoor adventures and a whole lot of adrenaline. When you’re not working, there’s plenty to explore in New Zealand – from hiking through the landscapes that made The Lord of the Rings famous to ticking bungee jumping off your bucket list. Work, explore, repeat.

Canada
More into powder than palm trees? Canada might be your kind of Working Holiday. Trade white-sand beaches for snow-covered mountains, epic national parks and some of the world’s best ski resorts. From Whistler to Banff, you can spend your season working on the slopes – then spend your days off exploring everything Canada has to offer. Through our resort partners, KILROY can help arrange your job and accommodation before you arrive, so you can settle into mountain life from day one.

Why go on a Working Holiday?

Going on a Working Holiday is a dream for many young people; many of us at KILROY have done it ourselves, and we haven't regretted it for a second. Here is a summary of why it’s such a fantastic experience:

  1. Experience daily life in a new country: A Working Holiday gives you the chance to live in a new country for an extended period, offering a much deeper insight into the culture than a short visit of just a few weeks would.

  2. Gain valuable work experience: The work experience you gain abroad can be invaluable for your future. It demonstrates that you are independent and ambitious, and that you possess a global network.

  3. Step out of your comfort zone: Living and working in a new country presents new challenges; you will learn to stand on your own two feet, handle new situations, and gain fresh perspectives on the world and yourself.

  4. Earn money for further travel: A Working Holiday allows you to earn money for your travels while you are already abroad. Seize the opportunity to go backpacking and explore the country and its local culture!

  5. Meet new people: You will meet plenty of new people on your adventure—at work, on the beach, in bars, and during your travels. It’s a fantastic part of the experience!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Here you will find the answers to the most frequently ask questions about going on a Working Holiday. Looking for answers about a specific Working Holiday destination? See Australia, Canada or New Zealand.

If you are interested in Canada, then we can help you secure a job before you even leave home, whereas in Australia and New Zealand, you look for work yourself once you are there. However, finding a job in Australia and New Zealand is often not a problem and, in most cases, it depends on your own requirements and expectations.

You shouldn't expect to make significant strides in your academic career during a Working Holiday, but you can easily find work as a waitress, bartender, tour guide, or on a farm, or in the service industry generally. Regardless, you gain international experience and a boost your CV for when you return home to apply for further education.

The idea behind a Working Holiday is, of course, to enjoy a vacation while working to fund your experiences along the way. There are plenty of job opportunities in the various countries, and you are sure to make new friends at your workplace, too.

A lot of people choose to book our Working Holiday packages, as they include all the elements you need to get the best start to your adventure abroad. The content and activities depend on the destination, but wherever you are going, we will pick you up at the airport, arrange accommodation for the first few nights, answer your questions, and help you get off to a good start with your job search and all sorts of other practical matters.

Your Working Holiday visa allows you to stay in Australia, Canada or New Zealand for up to 12 months, though you can, of course, choose to return home earlier. However, we recommend spending at least six months in Australia to get the most out of the experience.

We recommend that you apply for your visa as early as possible. Some people get it approved in a single day, while in other cases it can take up to three months. If you are in doubt, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions.
