Horses, mountains and yurts
There are few places in the world where nature feels as untouched and majestic as it does in Kyrgyzstan.
Horses have been at the heart of life here for centuries, and exploring the country on horseback remains one of the most rewarding ways to experience it. In many areas, you can follow ancient nomadic trails through valleys and across high mountain passes that vehicles simply can't reach. If you're into biking, you can also consider exploring the mountains on wheels.
If hiking is more your thing, Altyn Arashan is an absolute highlight. Known for its dramatic scenery, lush valleys and natural hot springs, it's the perfect place to unwind after a day on the trail.

When is the best time to visit Kyrgyzstan?
Thanks to the country's dramatic changes in elevation, the climate varies significantly from region to region. While temperatures in the lower valleys can climb to around 40 degrees during summer, conditions in the mountains are often pleasantly mild and perfect for outdoor adventures.
The best time to visit is generally from July to September, when mountain passes are open, landscapes are at their greenest and conditions are ideal for trekking, horseback riding and camping.
Spring and autumn can also be fantastic times to visit, although some mountain regions may experience snow and an increased risk of avalanches.
During winter, temperatures can drop to around -20 degrees in the coldest parts of the country, and many mountainous areas become difficult or impossible to access. If your main goal is to explore Kyrgyzstan's incredible natural landscapes, travelling during the warmer months is usually the better choice.
