Portuguese is the official language and is spoken widely across the country, alongside vibrant local Bantu languages like Makhuwa, Sena, and Tsonga. While English is spoken by guides and at major adventure hubs like Tofo or Vilanculos, picking up a few basic Portuguese phrases goes a very long way when connecting with locals in more remote areas.
