Explore Nicaragua’s highlights
Nicaragua is full of contrast, where every stop feels different from the last. In Managua, the capital, you’ll find a practical starting point for your journey, with highlights like Loma de Tiscapa and the Santo Domingo Cathedral offering a first glimpse of the country. From there, head to Granada, one of Central America’s most beautiful colonial cities, known for its colourful streets, historic buildings and location on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.
Nature quickly takes centre stage on Isla de Ometepe, a volcanic island in the middle of the lake that’s perfect for hiking and slowing down. In Masaya, you can explore local culture at the craft markets, before heading to the nearby Volcán Masaya, where glowing lava can sometimes be seen inside the crater. To finish it all off, the Islas del Maíz (Corn Islands) on the Caribbean coast offer clear waters, coral reefs and some of the best snorkelling and diving in the country.
