ROAD TRIP AUSTRALIA: EXPLORER'S WAY

Road trip through the outback: Historical villages, national parks and Uluru
Are you ready for a real outback experience? Start with a few days in Adelaide before getting on the bus that will take you through the outback of Australia. This trip will take you past some amazing landscapes and some of the best national parks that Australia offers.
Even though this itinerary is placed in our road trip section, it's not a road trip like the rest. The outback can be really tough to drive through, so this itinerary comes with a bus pass instead. That will help you focus on what's important - enjoying the breathtaking landscapes without having to focus on the driving.
Start with a few days in Adelaide before getting on the bus that will take you through the outback of Australia. Stop along the way in some of the old historical villages like Coober Pedy, Flinders Range and Alice Springs which is also the end of your bus trip. Visit some of the old national parks and make sure you pay Uluru a visit when you get there. It's an incredible sight.
Head on to Melbourne for the final part of this itinerary. In the vibrant city you can explore the famous street art on AC/DC Lane, visit the trendy cafés in the many different neighborhoods, check out the cool markets and go shopping in the many thrift shops.

Day 1-3: Kickstart your adventure in Adelaide
A few years back, Lonely Planet named Adelaide as one of the coolest cities in the World, and South Australia as the fifth best region in the World to visit, so of course this is the perfect place to start your trip! We've included two nights in a cool hostel, so you've got a great base for exploring the city.
Adelaide is an amazing city where you can easily spend a few days. It's often refered to as the Festival City, so if you're in town make sure you check out the event calendar - there might be something going on!
If you're into shopping and great food (who isn't?), check out Adelaide Central Market. You will quickly discover that you're in a vibrant city with great cafés, restaurants and a surprisingly good art scene. We recommend that you stay for at least two days, before boarding the bus and heading deep into the central part of Australia.

Frequently asked questions
For this specific itinerary, we recommend going for two to three weeks. That gives you enough time to explore the cities along the way to Alice Springs without having to speedrun your trip. Of course, you can stay longer if you'd like more time to explore, add extra stops along the road or want to explore other parts of Australia before or after going to the outback (or both). If you’re short on time, we can also help you design a route that fits your schedule.
Generally, Australia is not considered a cheap destination, but there are, of course, ways to make your trip more affordable.
Doing this trip with a bus pass instead of driving on your own is already a step towards making your trip more affordable. A lot of the activities in this itinerary are also already included in the price, so you don't have to cough up a lot of extra money to explore along the way. Of course, being on a road trip is a big part of the trip on its own! Don't forget to enjoy the unique view along the way (which is totally free).
If you’re unsure whether your budget is enough for this trip, feel free to get in touch. We’ll be happy to tailor a trip that suits both your budget and your wishes.
Absolutely, many travelers choose to combine the outback with a trip along the east coast for some beach fun and surfing. If you'd like to combine or extend your trip in Australia, we're happy to help you plan that too.
We recommend going between April and September, as the temperatures in Australia are starting to cool down around this time of year. The Red Centre can get really hot during the Aussie summers, making it preferable to go slightly after or before the summer heat rolls in.
