While credit cards are fine for high-end hotels and restaurants in Tashkent, you will definitely need cash everywhere else. Uzbek Som (UZS) is essential for local eateries, markets, taxis, and site admission fees in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. ATMs are easy to find in cities, but it’s smart to carry crisp, unwrinkled USD or EUR bills to exchange at local banks just in case.
Skip July and August unless you want to roast in 40°C+ heat. Instead, aim for April to June or September to November—the weather is actually nice, and you can walk around without melting.
Uzbekistan is super safe, even if you’re traveling solo or as a woman—crime is basically a non-issue. Watch out for petty theft though - like anywhere else in the world.
Most nationalities can stay up to 30 days visa-free. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 3 months after you plan to fly back home.
