Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur - or just "KL" - is the capital of Malaysia and the perfect place to start you trip to Malaysia. Explore bustling neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, sample incredible street food, visit colourful temples and admire the city's famous skyline, dominated by the Petronas Twin Towers. Batu Caves just outside the city is one of the main attractions and a must-do for many travellers. This means they are quite touristy so it's a good idea to go early in the morning before it gets too crowded.
Perhentian Islands and Langkawi
For paradise-like island life, head to the Perhentian Islands, where crystal-clear water, coral reefs and laid-back vibes make it one of Malaysia's best spots for snorkelling and diving. If you're travelling between November and April, Langkawi is another excellent choice, combining beautiful beaches with waterfalls, rainforest hikes and spectacular views from the Sky Bridge.
Penang
Penang offers a fascinating blend of history, culture and food. Wander the streets of George Town, a UNESCO-listed city filled with colourful murals, heritage buildings and some of the country's best street food.
Taman Negara National Park
Nature lovers shouldn't miss Taman Negara National Park, one of the world's oldest tropical rainforests. Walk along canopy walkways, take river trips deep into the jungle and experience Malaysia's remarkable biodiversity up close.
Cameron Highlands

When is the best time to visit Malaysia?
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year, but weather conditions vary between regions.
The west coast, including Langkawi, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, is generally best visited between November and April when rainfall is lower and conditions are ideal for sightseeing and beach time.
The east coast, including the Perhentian Islands, is usually best from March to October. During the northeast monsoon season, many island resorts close and boat services become limited.
If you're heading to Borneo, the drier months from April to September are typically best for wildlife spotting, trekking and outdoor activities. That said, rainforests are beautiful year-round, and travelling outside peak season often means fewer visitors and greener landscapes.
