The perfect introduction to Thailand
Phuket is one of the easiest places in Thailand to build a trip around. Not because you'll necessarily spend weeks on the island itself, but because it puts some of Southern Thailand's best experiences within easy reach. From here, you can sail through Phang Nga Bay, spend a few days island hopping around Koh Phi Phi, head towards Krabi and Railay, or join longer sailing trips through the Andaman Sea. Phuket also combines beaches, nightlife, food, culture and access to nature better than almost anywhere else in the country. You can explore the old streets of Phuket Town in the morning, grab lunch at a local market, spend the afternoon on the water and be watching the sunset from the west coast a few hours later.
That's why Phuket is a great match for so many different travellers. Backpackers use it as a hub for exploring Southern Thailand, while others base themselves here before continuing to islands and coastal towns across the Andaman Coast. With direct international and domestic flights, it's also one of the most accessible destinations in Thailand and an easy starting point for a longer route through the country.
