Don't just visit Africa. Get involved.
Volunteering in Africa gives you the chance to travel with purpose. Whether you're helping to protect endangered wildlife, supporting local communities or getting involved in education projects, you'll be contributing to something bigger than yourself while experiencing a side of Africa many travellers never see.
You'll meet people from completely different backgrounds, step outside your comfort zone and become part of a project that's making a genuine impact.
You'll see incredible landscapes, you'll spot wildlife, you'll experience cultures, communities and places that look very different from home. Volunteering gives you something most holidays can't, it gives you a chance to become part of everyday life. Instead of simply passing through, you'll spend time working alongside local people, learning about the challenges they face and contributing to projects designed to create long-term positive change.
Maybe you'll spend your mornings teaching children at a local school, maybe you'll help renovate community facilities, or perhaps you'll find yourself tracking wildlife, assisting conservation teams or helping care for rescued animals. Every project is different!

Choose a project you're genuinely passionate about
The best volunteer experiences aren't necessarily the most exotic, they're the ones that match your interests. Love animals? Look at wildlife conservation projects in South Africa, Namibia or the Seychelles. Interested in education? Consider teaching, childcare or community development programmes. Passionate about sport? Some projects combine coaching with education, using football or surfing to engage local young people. You'll contribute more, enjoy it more and get far more out of the experience when you're doing something you genuinely care about.
Volunteer with wildlife:
Africa is home to some of the world's most iconic animals. As a wildlife volunteer, you could support anti-poaching initiatives, help monitor protected areas, assist with wildlife rehabilitation or contribute to conservation research. This isn't a safari, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the people and projects working every day to protect Africa's wildlife and you'll gain a much deeper understanding of conservation than you ever could from the back of a game drive vehicle.
South Africa
One of the most popular destinations for wildlife volunteering. Projects range from conservation research and reserve management to animal rehabilitation and environmental education. You'll spend your days surrounded by incredible scenery and some of Africa's most famous wildlife.
Namibia
Vast landscapes, incredible desert wildlife and important conservation projects. Volunteer opportunities here often focus on species protection, habitat conservation and sustainable wildlife management.
Seychelles
Not all conservation projects involve large mammals. In the Seychelles, you could help protect unique ecosystems, support marine conservation initiatives and contribute to preserving one of the world's most beautiful island environments.
Volunteer with local communities:
If working directly with people appeals more than working with wildlife, there are plenty of opportunities to support local communities across Africa. Community projects focus on creating long-term benefits through education, infrastructure, childcare and skills development. You'll work alongside local teams rather than simply observing from the sidelines and that's often where the most rewarding experiences happen.
Uganda
Uganda offers a wide variety of community-focused projects. You might help renovate schools, support childcare centres, assist with community development initiatives or get involved in educational programmes. Life moves at a different pace here, and you'll quickly find yourself immersed in local culture and daily life.
South Africa
Alongside wildlife programmes, South Africa also offers a range of community projects. You can support schools, work with children, assist after-school activities or help deliver educational and recreational programmes designed to create opportunities for young people.
