COAST TO COAST

Grand Canyon
Intro

Are you ready for the ultimate road trip adventure?

This itinerary takes you all the way from Los Angeles on the West coast to New York on the East coast. Cross the country in around 8 weeks and get the best from USA in one go! It's difficult not to fall in love with the idea of spending 8 weeks crossing the big US and A! Do it in your own pace and make sure you absorb it all! From the Cali-vibe in west all the way to hip New York. The route we have suggested allows you to pass through California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania & New York. Not too shabby, eh?

What is road trippin’ the KILROY Way?

Well, we always encourage our travelers to be curious. To open up, and to embrace the unexpected. Stop where you can, go down the narrow side street and don’t get stuck in the camper. Don’t just drive for the sake of driving. Approach new people. Approach new ways of doing things. Explore and be open to changes – that’s where the magic happens.

Week 1: Los Angeles, California

First stop on this itinerary is Los Angeles. We've included 3 nights in our favorite hostel at Venice Beach, so you can decide to explore the surroundings by foot, bike or one of the elctric scooters. It's a nice way to get around in the nearby neighborhoods, whereas if you'd like to cover bigger distances in the city for instance to check out some of the fashionable areas such as Beverly Hills and Hollywood, a car would be a better solution - so it's up to you if you want to pick up the car straight away. Don't miss the view from Griffith Observatory, where you'll get a splendid view over the city.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

We strongly encourage you to fill up your tank before driving through Death Valley. There are a few operational gas stations in Death Valley National Park, though they are remote, limited, and notoriously expensive because of their location.

No. rental companies in the US do not track or care about your specific step-by-step itinerary, as long as you stay within allowed boundaries (within the US).

The big rule here is crossing borders. Taking a US rental into Mexico is almost always a hard no. Headed to Canada instead? Totally fine, but tell the agency at pickup so they can give you the right insurance paperwork.

Oh, and stick to paved roads! Taking the car off-road or down dirt tracks—like in Death Valley or national parks—instantly voids your insurance. If you pop a tire or scrape the frame out there, you're paying for it out of pocket.
