Trip

EAST COAST USA

Blue Ridge Mountains
Intro

Experience the beautiful East Coast!

This road trip takes gives you plenty of time to explore some of the most important cities on the East Coast, like New York, Boston and Washington. Driving south you'll also have the opportunity to see the famous Great Smokey Mountains!

Not only will this road trip give you the cultural hubs like New York, Pittsburg and Washington, but you'll also get epic natural sites like Niagara Falls, Shenandoah NP, Great Smokey Mountains and island life on Outer Banks in North Carolina.  We've included a car in this road trip, but you can change it to a campervan if you'd like, the choice is yours! It's also good to mention that when you're renting a car abroad, make sure to have your travel insurance in order. Don't have one yet? No worries - we can help you out with that.

What is road trippin’ the KILROY Way?

Well, we always encourage our travelers to be curious. To open up, and to embrace the unexpected. Stop where you can, go down the narrow side street and don’t get stuck in the camper. Don’t just drive for the sake of driving. Approach new people. Approach new ways of doing things. Explore and be open to changes – that’s where the magic happens.

Week 1: New York

Start this road trip off the right way with sightseeing, shopping, statue of liberty, Brooklyn, Harlem, Wall Street, street musicians at Times Square and doughnut eating cops in Central Park. New York has so much to offer, so make sure to have enough time in the city (we don't think that 2-3 days are enough). When you're done exploring NYC, pick up your car and head out on an epic road trip! (In New York you're allowed rent a car from the time you're 18).

*You're picking up your rental car and dropping it off again in NYC.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Head out before 10 AM to beat the morning rush, and stay off the road between 4 PM and 8 PM to skip the worst gridlock and mess in the city.

Aim for May through October for an East Coast road trip. You’ll get warm weather and everything will be up and running. If you want crisp air and incredible fall colors, September and October are prime time, especially up north.

Nope! Speed limits top out at 45 mph (or lower), the roads are super curvy, and there are no gas stations on the parkway. The whole drive takes 12 to 15 hours. Treat it like a chill, scenic drive—not a fast shortcut!

Yes. If you missed early autumn up north, heading south to Virginia and North Carolina gives you access to the longest foliage season in the country. Expect rolling mountain vistas bathed in a warm, golden glow.

Cruise along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park or take the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way down to the Great Smoky Mountains.
