Day 1-4: Start out with 4 days of big city life in Hanoi
You touch down in Hanoi, where you start out with 4 days in one of our favorite hostels in the city. You get picked up in the airport, so you don't have to hassle with taxis right upon arrival. There's a half day walking tour included, but other than that, it's time on your own. Check out markets or if you're in the mood, spend an evening at either the Bird Cage or Sidewalk, both great options if you want to hang out in a cool bar.

Frequently asked questions
Planning a trip to Vietnam and Bali? Find answers to the most common questions from our travel experts.
Definitely! The itinerary is designed with group and social elements, such as a stay at a surf camp and a 12-day tour, making it a fantastic option for meeting other travellers.
For northern Vietnam, pack light layers, comfortable walking shoes for navigating Hanoi’s busy streets, and a warm jacket if you are traveling during the cooler winter months.
For Bali you should pack lightweight, breathable tropical clothing, modest attire (like a sarong or scarf) for visiting sacred temples, reef-safe sunscreen, and motion sickness pills if you get seasick on the fast boats to the Gilis.
Vietnam: The official language is Vietnamese. It is spoken by the vast majority of the population and uses the Latin alphabet (known as Quốc ngữ).
Bali (Indonesia): The national and official language is Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), which is used in government, education, and media. However, the local population primarily speaks Balinese (Basa Bali) in their daily lives, and English is also widely spoken in tourist areas.
Yes, you should definitely have cash when traveling as a tourist in both Vietnam and Bali (Indonesia). While digital payments and cards are becoming much more common, cash remains essential for many everyday expenses.
