What project should you choose?
First of all, you should understand that volunteering is not for everyone. We're happy to help you find a project that suits you, and there are often no requirements of previous work experience, but volunteering is still work and we advise that you can set aside minimum of 2 weeks, and preferably more time when it's about community volunteering.
We have handpicked projects from all over the world, that we can stand behind and that we know contribute positively to the local community. It is our number 1 priority that the volunteers we send out to help on the projects are actually being a part of a movement for good. Once we have established all of this, we'd like to let you know that volunteering as a part of your trip is not only beneficial for the local community, it is for you too. It gives you a chance to stay local, work with locals and make a ton of new friends at the project - remember, they are here for all the same reasons as you are. And even though it's work, we promise you it will be fun as well!

Join a construction project
Several places around the world we work with projects, where construction help is needed. It could be as a helping hand in constructing buildings for schools, kindergartens or similar. It could also be re-storing facades by painting or by joining a local team that (re-)builds public buildings in serious need.

Wildlife volunteering: for the animal lovers
Get involved in hands-on wildlife and conservation projects and experience a side of travel most people never see. Depending on where you go, you could be preparing food for rescued animals at a wildlife sanctuary in Thailand, helping collect field data in Namibia, or supporting conservation efforts in South Africa. Unlike community volunteering, you'll be working primarily with animals and conservation teams rather than local communities, so the focus is often on practical daily tasks that keep projects running. Expect early mornings, physical work, and plenty of routine jobs alongside the more memorable moments. A lot of the work happens behind the scenes and helps keep projects running smoothly. It's a hands-on way to experience a destination, learn more about wildlife conservation, and spend time with people who work with it every day.

Or maybe a community project?
Join a community project and make a major impact on children and young people from less fortunate areas in the world. As you will be working directly with people, we do recommend that you can set aside minimum of 4 weeks when joining a volunteer project of this sort. You can help out in a hospital, teach in a school or a kindergarten or be a volunteer assistant at the local sports club. Community volunteering is different than joining a marine conservation project i.e, and since you are direcly impacting a lot of kids daily, some kind of pedagogical mindset is very valuable.

You can also join a marine conservation project
Join a group of local marine biologists, and work as a volunteer on a marine conservations project. The tasks can be many, but researching beneath the surface could be one of the tasks. Most projects allow you to take your divers certification on site in the beginning if you don't already have it. Help the researchers harvest and interpret the data and learn a lot about life in the ocean while volunteering.

Good question. When you are volunteering you are provided a place to stay and most meals. A part of your payment (minimum 10%) is also donated as contribution to the project.
As a rule of thumb, no. You might get more out of your stay if you have a basic understanding of teaching when volunteering at a community project, or if you are just a bit handy working on a construction project - but there are generally no requirements.
We are aware of the grey zone volunteering in general can be. That's also why we are handpicking every single project we are working with to ensure that the project actually contribute positively to the local community and lives up to the standards we require from a partner.
