The official and most widely spoken language in Honduras is Spanish. In addition to the dominant Honduran Spanish (which frequently uses the pronoun "vos" instead of "tú"), various indigenous dialects and local variants are spoken.
The best time of year to backpack in Honduras is January, February, and March. This is the dry season, and it is also less hot than during the summer months. This is also a good time for diving, as the water is clear.
From Honduras, you can easily travel to Guatemala, Nicaragua, or El Salvador by bus or plane. In major cities, it is better to take a taxi; it’s comfortable, inexpensive, and a lot safer. The locals use the 'chicken bus': an old American school bus that stops everywhere along the way to pick up or drop off passengers. It is by far the cheapest and most fun way to travel, though not always the fastest.
Honduras is generally an affordable, budget-friendly destination for travelers. Backpackers can easily get by on €35 to €45 per day by staying in hostels and eating local street food.
